The present Bruton Parish Church has been in use since 1715, but the parish has a much longer history. Our history includes the Church of England, the Reformation, Jamestown, the Great Awakening; as well as well-known people including Royal Governors, members of the Governor’s Council, members of the House of Burgesses, residents of Williamsburg, students from William and Mary, and the many rectors of this church.
These videos will explain items in the church and churchyard as well as the practices of the Church of England and the Episcopal Church. They will also introduce you to some of the many people who have attended this church through the years.
These videos were created by a team of parishioners who worked for three years to produce them. Anne Macon had the vision to film Anne Conkling telling the story of Bruton. Sandy Lenthall convinced WHRO to provide their services for free and to release the discs for the church to use however they were needed. Linda Rowe edited every word to make sure the information was as accurate as it could be at the time.
